German "Gaede" Helmet GP.01

In 1915, Lieutenant Colonel Hesse was assigned to Army Group Gaede at the Vosges Front.  He was appalled by the amount of casualties suffering from head wounds and quickly designed this crude cast steel shield attached to a leather skull cap to cover the forehead and nasal area. These were obsolete by 1916 when the Model 16 Stahlhelm was issued.

It had been in the family after it was reputed to of been bought back from Gallipoli by the great grandfather who was an Officer in the Royal Army Medical Corps.  Of course this is only hearsay as I have no documented to support this. However it is a WW1 Officers camp bed for certain.
